Tyre Pressure

Hi, thanks for a great website. We are doing the Oodnadatta Track in June. I have Cooper Discovers on the 4wd which I run at 40 lb (cold) & 52lb for the caravan . Caravan when loaded is 2020 kg and is a single axle. Just wondering what we should drop tyres to whilst on the track.

Hi, we have driven the Oodnadatta Track a number of times and have also run Coopers tyres. There are parts of the track that can have little pockets of sand and then there are other parts that are quite hard but generally in dry weather the condition of the track is quite good. When I'm on a track like this I usually start but dropping about 10 lb out of each tyre and drive for about an hour and see how they feel. After that I'll make any adjustments if I think it is necessary. Matt

Hi Matt,

we are thinking of cutting across to Coober Pedy from Oodnadatta. Have you done that road?

Hi Stephen,

Yes, we have! We did it quite a few years ago because the kids wanted a pizza for dinner and there's a great pizza restaurant in Coober Pedy! At the time, this road was really good and was no problem driving it. It was quite well look after and had some beautiful scenery. Having said this it can close after rain so just check with the Pink Roadhouse in Oodnadatta before you head that way. It's a great trip though. Are you doing the Birdsville Track as well?

Thanks Matt, we are not doing Birdsville this year. This year we are doing SA & NT. Two years ago we did WA & came home via the Isa & took in The annual races. It was a fantastic trip.
